Cherry Hills Village April 2006 Election Results;
Doug Tisdale Elected Mayor Pro Tem of Cherry Hills Village.
Election Day. On Tuesday, April 4, 2006 the citizens of Cherry Hills Village turned out at the polls in record numbers. Over 42% of the registered voters participated in this significant election. Nine candidates (three for Mayor and two for each of the three council seats up for election) ran. Many important issues were framed during the campaign. And the results bespeak a great continuing demand by our citizens for active communication and involvement in the things that matter to Cherry Hills.
Results. Mike Wozniak, a sitting councilman in District 5, was elected as Mayor. Three newcomers to the Council were elected to the three open seats in the election. Russell Stewart was elected for District 2. Scott Roswell was elected for District 4. And Harriet Crittenden LaMair was elected for District 6.
Congratulations. I would like to express my genuine and sincere congratulations and best wishes to our three new Councilmembers, and to our new Mayor. They ran a thoughtful, well-organized and effective campaign, as evidenced by the commanding margins they each amassed. I look forward to the opportunity of working cooperatively with them in exploring and managing the future of our Village.
Change. Not since its original formation has the City of Cherry Hills Village had such a change in leadership. With three new members, and a fourth to be added within thirty days (to fill Mike Wozniak’s seat), and a new Mayor, and the search on for a new City Manager and a new Public Works Director, the opportunities – and responsibilities – before us are imposing. The implementation of the Blue Ribbon Panel Report, the creation of a new, professionally-assisted Master Plan, the resolution of our space and staffing needs – all these add to the mix presented to all of us.
Pledge. For my part, I pledge to each of these new Councilmembers that I will approach our new relationship and each task we face with an open mind and a good faith commitment to the principles of rational judgment and reasonable compromise. I know that, if we all similarly resolve, we will collectively serve as positive instruments of governance and managed change.
Thanks. As for our outgoing Mayor Doug Scott and departing Councilmembers Fred Boutin, Cathy Pomeroy and the venerable John Love, may I say that it has been a pleasure and a privilege to serve on the Cherry Hills Village City Council with each of them. I note for the record that their time was well spent, and they each accomplished great things. I can only hope that their talents will remain on call to our “sleepy little rural Village” in the days to come.
Mayor Pro Tem. At the organizational meeting of the Council on Monday night, April 10th, on the motion of Councilmember Bonnie Blum, and with much-appreciated support of Councilmember Harriet LaMair, Doug Tisdale was elected to a two year term as the Mayor Pro Tem of the Village. According to the Village’s Charter, Mayor Pro Tem is elected by the Council from its own membership and shall act as Mayor during the absence or disability of the Mayor, while retaining all powers granted to Councilmembers.
It is a great honor to be elected your Mayor Pro Tem, especially when it is an honor that is accorded only by a vote of the sitting councilmembers of the Village. I pledge to be responsive to the needs and desires of my fellow Villagers. As always, I will continue to be “Your Voice at Village Hall!"
Thank you all!
And to paraphrase the masthead of The Denver Post, “Tis a pleasure to live in Cherry Hills Village!”
