Summary:                         Douglas M. Tisdale possesses globally recognized experience and expertise in the fields of bankruptcy, commercial default/enforcement, finance and real estate litigation and regulation. For almost three decades he has—whether as a seasoned trial lawyer in the courtroom or as a facilitator in the board room, or as an emissary of foreign governments in the halls of state—helped clients in the successful resolution of all levels of commercial disputes and problems.

Mr. Tisdale is never too busy to respond personally and promptly to a client’s needs. He has solved problems for the world’s largest real estate development and property management company, Trammell Crow Company, including acting as outside general counsel for the client’s $1 Billion mixed-use development project in California. He has also assisted other large national real estate developers, property managers and major commercial lenders in literally thousands of transactions and default/enforcement litigations in more than a dozen states. Over the last 27 years these clients have included many of the largest real estate interests and financing sources throughout the United States, Europe, Africa and Asia.

Mr. Tisdale helped one of the world’s largest mining and mineral companies, Cyprus Amax Minerals Company, in crafting creative solutions to its commercial disputes, including complex international litigations involving disputes over the sales of companies and complex geotechnical and soils litigation. His other clients include owners and operators of airports, golf courses and resort properties, commercial credit providers, entertainment franchises, and multinational conglomerates.

Mr. Tisdale’s national experience in so-called “mega-reorganizations” was well established when he acted as counsel to the debtor, Gillett Holdings, Inc., in a highly publicized and successful Chapter 11 reorganization case with $1.2 billion in structured debt for this consumer products and services company with operations from coast to coast.

Mr. Tisdale’s international experience includes his representation of the Government of Pakistan,  the seventh largest country in the world, in its efforts to repatriate billions of dollars from former governments.  He partnered with the members of the reunification commission of  Germany concerning restoring property rights to ethnic minorities.  He also arranged the reorganization of the company responsible for the distribution of U.S. foreign aid for micro-economic development on the continent of Africa.  In addition, he has successfully represented numerous foreign companies in protecting their interests in United States courts.

Mr. Tisdale appreciates and understands the needs of businesses, having also been a real estate and hotel developer in Vail and Beaver Creek , Colorado. In that connection, he knows how important it is to listen to the needs and desires of his clients, and to formulate a set of written goals for each engagement, with periodic assessments as to implementation.

Prior to the formal opening of Tisdale & Associates LLC on Law Day 2002, Mr. Tisdale served as Law Clerk to Chief Judge Alfred A. Arraj of the United States District Court for the District of Colorado (1975-76), and then was a partner at Brownstein Hyatt & Farber (1976-1992), Popham Haik Schnobrich & Kaufman Ltd. (1992-1997) and Baker & Hostetler LLP (1997-2002).

Mr. Tisdale holds elective office as City Councilman for the City of Cherry Hills Village, Colorado and is on the Board of the Denver Regional Council of Governments.  His community service is further exemplified by his serving on the Board of Trustees of the Vail Valley Medical Center since 1990.  In addition, he is the Chairman of the Board of Eagle Health Care Center, Inc., a joint venture of hospitals in Vail and Glenwood Springs formed to build a new medical center in Eagle, Colorado.  He is also on the board of the United Cerebral Palsy Legacy Foundation.  He was a charter Board member of Employer Services Program, Inc. of Colorado, a public-private partnership for the education, training rehabilitation and employment of persons with disabilities.  He was married to the late Patricia C. Tisdale, Esq. for 31 years before her untimely passing.  They had four children.  He is active in church activities.  Mr. Tisdale is a member of the Denver and Colorado Bar Associations, the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Commercial Law League of America.
